You're deep asleep, dreaming that good dream and suddenly all you hear is a loud beeping-thing. If you're an iPhone user like me then you know exactly what that sound is; your alarm clock.
I am NOT a morning person by any means. It's probably because I stayed up until 4 am binge-watching movies on Netflix and trying to write blog posts (like this one!). But, after hitting snooze seven or eight times I'm up and moving. Typically I get ready listening to upbeat music and sloshing through my closet Clueless-style for something to wear. After I look halfway decent (C'mon y'all I work in media. We can wear jeans everyday!) I head for the door.
One morning on a day when I miraculously managed to eat breakfast BEFORE I got to work, I sat there wondering what other women's morning routines were like. Is it an "I woke up like this" situation? Or do they struggle out of bed like me? So I went and investigated and here's what I found. Below, is a curated list of seven interesting, inspiring, and fun things a few successful women do every day. FYI: get ready to switch up your own routine!
1. They start the day with a good mindset
"The first thing I do is at least two or three minutes of meditation. I use Russell Simmons‘ app—he just introduced me to it. I started doing that after I had my son. It has helped me tremendously. It just puts you in an easier mind space. There’s so much you have to deal with in one day, and I feel like meditation prepares you for anything that comes to you. You won’t flip your lid on the first thing that shakes you up a bit. It puts you at ease." -Kelly Rowland
2. They Eat Breakfast
*Makes note to self to stop skipping this meal. “I like simple, whole foods,” says Tracee Ellis Ross, who avoids dairy and loves to buy seasonal produce from the organic farmers market. Her breakfast consists of Special K and almond milk, and she enjoys snacking on avocado toast, apples and peanut butter shortly after.
3. They Work out
“I just started thinking, if I had to get up to go to work, I’d get up and go to work. If I had to get up to take care of my kids, I’d get up to do that. But when it comes to yourself, then it’s suddenly, ‘Oh, I can’t get up at 4:30.’ So I had to change that. If I don’t exercise, I won’t feel good. I’ll get depressed.” -First Lady Michelle Obama
4. They play their mood music
“I have breakfast with myself, figure out what I’m going to do for the day… I have to admit, pretty much every morning, I have a tiny little dance party. Lately, it’s with Beyoncé. So Beyoncé and I are having a little dance party every morning. I’m getting in formation. And that usually puts me in a good mood." -Shonda Rhimes
5. They get hydrated

6. they pamper themselves
Gayle King’s alarm goes off at 3:20 a.m., but “I do two snoozes,” she said, before hitting the bath at 3:45. That’s right, “a nice bath with lots of bubbles.”
"I love salt and I like to drink at night, so when I wake up I tend to be a little puffier than other people. My beauty tricks revolve around eyes. For the early morning shoots, I pop eye pads in the freezer the night before and when I take them out in the morning they are already cold and active and are great under my eyes. I keep my eye pads right next to my red velvet Ben & Jerry's in the freezer." -Chrissy Teigen
7. They bond with friends
“Before I dive into meetings and other tasks, I chat with my three best girlfriends. We have a WhatsApp conversation that’s been going on forever, which is both hilarious and encouraging. I check it again at lunch and then at the end of the day. It’s so important to connect with people who care about you and who don’t work with you.
